Questions

What is an appointment with a homeopath like?

The initial homeopathic interview is a thorough investigation into the state of the client’s health. A detailed understanding is needed of the client as a whole person. How he or she expresses illness and health, responds to the environment, and generally experience life is very important from a homeopathic perspective. Homeopaths also consider the client and his family’s medical and emotional history in determining the constitutional susceptibilities and sensitivities. For this first in depth interview we generally allow an hour and a half to accomplish this, but will take as much time as needed to feel we have reached a clear understanding of the client holistically.

After the interview, we compare what we have learned about each client with what we know of the homeopathic medicines and reflect, research and select the remedy and the potency that corresponds to the individual’s constitution.

There may also be simple dietary or lifestyle adjustments suggested as part of the treatment plan.

At the 3 to 6 week point the first follow up appointment is scheduled to evaluate the action of the remedy and to fine tune the treatment. Jackie is available for questions and clarifications between the initial appointment and the follow up if needed. Follow up appointments are approximately 45 minutes long and are scheduled usually at about the one month mark, the 3 month mark, reducing in quickly in frequency as you become healthier.

Acute and first aid appointments are scheduled as needed.

How are the remedies prepared?

The substance, is usually soaked in alcohol to obtain a tincture. One drop of the tincture is mixed with 99 drops of water (to achieve a ratio of 1:100) and the mixture is strongly shaken. This shaking process is known as succussion. That bottle is labeled as “1C.” One drop of this 1C is then mixed with 99 drops of water and the process is repeated to make a 2C. By the time the 3C is reached, the dilution is 1 part in 1 million!* This process is repeated until the required potency is reached, 30c being the most common. Small globules made from sugar are then saturated with the liquid dilution. These globules constitute the homeopathic medicine. The dilution process is also used, less often, with a decimal scale, i.e.; the ration is 1:10.
